The New Doha International Airport is the airport of the capital of Qatar, the only commercial terminal in the country. It was born following a collaboration with Adpi, a world-leading international company in the design of airport infrastructure, and with Mace, a consulting and architecture company of international renown. Escooh has created, for the civilian headquarters of Doha Airport, some furnishings for various areas:
- Service counter
- Service area counter
- Conference room desk and Leather partitions
- Wooden and marbles deking
- Corian bathtub and shoe rack
Service counter
The service counter is a counter dedicated to the reception operations carried out by airport staff. The result of a custom study on design and contract furnishing solutions for airports, the service counter is a high-quality product perfectly in line with the design of the most modern airport lounges. With a diameter of 6.5 meters and a suspended structure, the service counter designed by architect Farid represented a challenging task enthusiastically undertaken by Escooh's technical office.
The skeleton of the service counter, the result of a complex engineering process, is made of plywood with metal reinforcements and entirely covered in Corian. From a central load-bearing base, the counter develops into a semicircular shape that thins out until ending with two large wings in mid-air, supported by a sturdy metal frame. An ergonomically functional recess was created in the left wing for travelers with disabilities. Inside the service counter, a wiring system was installed to allow the insertion of microphone sockets, Ethernet cables, and USB ports. The central facade of the Corian counter was engraved with the logo of the Civil Aviation Authority illuminated thanks to a LED lighting system.

Serving area counter
One of Escooh's flagship products for the Doha International Airport is the serving area counter, a wooden and corian counter located in the airport area dedicated to passenger services.
Supported by a structure of iron profiles, the service area counter has a modern and minimalist design. The base and the drawer unit, whose doors are 19 millimeters thick, are made of oak plywood above which, with a system of fastening the uprights, three rectangular section oak plywood trunks covered in corian are overlapped asymmetrically. The central trunk remains suspended for a third of the total length of the counter, and thanks to the structural calculations carried out by Escooh's technical office, in synergy with architect Farid, the creator of the serving area counter, it was possible to create a suspended structure while maintaining the stability of the counter intact. The serving area counter is completed by a poplar plywood plinth coated with a steel sheet and a rear compartment in blueberry ice corian illuminated by a LED system.
Conference room desk and Leather partitions
As part of architect Hamid's project, Escooh supplied desks for the airport conference room. Made of wenge and oak veneer, they represent a prestigious product with an elegant and refined design.
The project involved the construction of three tables with dimensions of 1600x720x500 cm. Composed of a wenge-coated oak veneer structure, precision work was required for the decoration. To achieve this, the wenge wood was asymmetrically carved in length and width. Solid oak inserts were then fitted into the resulting grooves for contrast. This type of craftsmanship, strongly desired by architect Adpi Farid, creates a play of light bands on a dark base that characterizes and enhances the final result. The various components of the desks are assembled with a 45° cut, a technique that makes the joints between the different parts invisible, providing the pleasant appearance of a single block. In support of the structure, a stainless steel reinforcement rod was inserted under the tabletop, and adjustable feet were fixed to the base of the tables to level the desks.
To divide the meeting room in two when needed, Escooh was commissioned to create a partition wall consisting of electronic doors covered in mud-colored leather.
The structure of the doors, made of galvanized metal and covered with wooden panels onto which leather was applied, extends for over 4 meters with a total of 192 panels. It was equipped with electronic movement to allow extension or retraction for controlling the size of the room.
The part of the project that involved Escooh's technical skills was the leather cladding of the wooden wall on an aluminum structure. The choice of material fell on a top grain leather, the finest quality. This type of leather is characterized visually by more or less pronounced roughness, and to the touch by its softness and silkiness. Other properties that defined its selection were its durability over time and excellent breathability. The precision in technique and research, typical of Escooh's modus operandi, reached its peak in this project. For optimal results, the thickness of each meter of leather used was divided in two. The original thickness was reduced to 1.2, increasing the application sensitivity. The challenge of covering with such a delicate and lightweight material is evident in the details. An artificial stitching-like incision was made on the leather 5 millimeters from the seams. The thinness of the leather also required perfect processing and smoothing of the underlying panels to achieve the desired effect. The result lived up to the effort put in.
Wooden and marbles decking
Among the requests for furnishings for the renovation of the airport was the realization of a canopy in iroko and marble placed in the main hall of the building. It is an area of 65 square meters that has been covered with 2015 solid iroko slats, for a volume of 7 cubic meters and a supporting structure made up of 28 iroko solid beams. The base of the floor consists of a structure of 39 cut, assembled, and turned feet. Special attention was paid to sanding. This, like all production stages, was carried out in three different moments by expert Sicilian craftsmen, using three different grains to ensure a smooth parquet floor without burrs.
The natural finish further enhances the floor, defining it as one of Escooh's flagship products. The natural water-based finish for the Solid parquet by Renner allows for an elegant finish, stain-resistant, anti-fingerprint, hardening, anti-scratch, and tread-resistant, protecting the parquet from UV rays, yellowing, and oxidation.
The same project allowed Escooh Contracts to showcase their craftsmanship in marble processing, considered a great added value for the company. In harmony with the iroko floor, Escooh carefully selected from the best Italian and foreign quarries a supply of marble boulders and pebbles. High-end products like the Finnish Kuru grey boulders were directly selected from the blocks in the quarry by Escooh's technical staff and finely worked to recreate the desired effect by architect Farid, the project's creator. The ultimate goal was to create a river of pebbles winding through the hardscape area, a kind of "Zen Garden" located in the central hall of the building that, thanks to the natural chromatic shades of the various types of marble used, creates a breathtaking visual effect. A small work of art within an area dedicated to relaxation in a place marked by continuous arrivals and departures.
The marble types used:
- Finnish Kuru grey (boulders);
- Tuscan Bardiglio (pebbles);
- Bianco Carrara (pebbles);
- Rosa del Garda (pebbles);
- Absolute Black (pebbles).
Bathtub and shoe rack
The civilian area of the Qatar International Airport also has "VIP SUITES," support apartments for foreign guests visiting the facility on special occasions such as air traffic control training courses. Inside one of the bathrooms of the VIP suite, Escooh has installed a Corian DuPont bathtub.
For the area adjacent to the services, Escooh has created shelving units for the placement of shoes and towels. The structure, measuring 3600x1650 cm, is made of natural wenge wood and is divided into seven columns creating 24 shelves dedicated to shoes and four shelves for towels.
