The whiteish sapwood is well distinguished from the heartwood, which has a golden brown color when freshly cut, destined to darken with exposure to air. The grain is straight or cross, with a moderately fine texture.
Uses
Properties
Afrormosia wood was originally used as a substitute for teak in the furniture industry for frames, furnishings, and paneling. Today it is used for applications where a resistant, stable, durable, and aesthetically pleasing wood is required: high-quality furniture, cabinetry, chairs, interior and exterior carpentry, stairs, shop and office fittings, as well as agricultural tools, flooring, boat construction, and marine barriers.
Afrormosia is a very durable wood. The density after seasoning is about 690 kg/m3. Drying is slow. It has medium stiffness and impact resistance with high tensile strength. It is not subject to attacks by fungi and termites and extremely resistant to preservation treatments.
